State activates emergency resources ahead of expected heavy rain from tropical Gulf system
With rounds of rain expected in Texas from a tropical system in the southern Gulf, the state is activating resources to help.
HOUSTON — While Texas isn’t expected to get a direct hit from Potential Tropical Cyclone 1, the effects of the storm will likely be felt all along the state’s coast in the coming days. In the Houston area, we’re expecting several rounds of heavy rain from the system throughout the week.
Gov. Greg Abbott’s office sent out a release Monday, saying how the state is preparing for the effects of tropical weather along coastal and inland communities.

The Texas Division of Emergency Management is activating state emergency resources now. Those include the following:
- Texas A&M Task Force 1 and Texas Task Force 2: For urban search and rescue and swiftwater boats
- Texas National Guard: For ground transportation with high-profile vehicles and helicopters
- Texas Parks and Wildlife Department: For search and rescue boat teams
- Texas Department of Public Safety: For tactical marine boats and rescue swimmers as well as rescue aircraft
- Texas Department of Transportation: For high-profile vehicles and for monitoring road conditions
- Texas Department of State Health Services (Texas Emergency Medical Task Force): For severe weather packages
If needed, the state has also readied the Texas A&M Forestry Service, Public Utilities of Texas, Railroad Commission of Texas and Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to jump into action.
