Look of the Day for 6/17: Phils to jump all over Padres early
The Phils should have their way with Randy Vasquez and the Padres.
Coming off three straight Look of the Day wins to close the week, we're looking to stay hot with our first selection of the new week. Let's go right back to the Philadelphia Phillies for our favorite bet on Monday's MLB slate.
Look of the Day: Phillies team total over 2.5 first five innings (-130 DraftKings)
The Phillies are coming off a rough week in which they lost four of six games, but this is a great bounce-back spot against Randy Vasquez and the San Diego Padres.
Opposing hitters are having their way with Vasquez this season. The San Diego Padres right-hander is giving up the second-highest expected batting average (.318), the sixth-highest expected slugging percentage (.524) and the 13th-highest xwOBA (.377) among 344 pitchers who have faced at least 100 batters. Vasquez pitches to contact and doesn't generate a ton of strikeouts, so this is a dangerous matchup against a Phillies lineup that crushes righties when it's not striking out.
Vasquez has surrendered at least three earned runs in four of his last five starts, and the one game he didn't came against an Oakland Athletics team that ranks 29th in batting average and 26th in OPS against righties. This is a much tougher matchup, and Philly is getting a huge boost to its lineup with the return of Trea Turner on Monday night.
With Kyle Schwarber heating up, Bryce Harper and Alec Bohm on fire and Turner returning to the fold, the Phillies should be able to jump on Vasquez early and hit this over.
