Amul ice-cream centipede: Imagine ordering ice cream in this blazing summer and finding almost a pinky finger sized dangerous insect inside it. Well recently a lady from Noida claimed to find a centipede (Kaankhajura) in her Amul ice cream tub.
On her X account, the woman, known by the username Deepa Devi, (CEO and co-founder of Ujjwal Unnati foundation) posted a picture of Amul ice cream - Vanilla Magic. Deepa had ordered two boxes of Amul ice cream, and in one of them, she found a centipede.
"Finding an insect inside my @Amul India ice cream was truly alarming Quality control and food safety should never be compromised @FSSAI Publication have to take some legal action on such kind of incidents they are increasing in numbers day by day,” the user wrote.
The post has gained over four thousand views so far and has gained several reactions from the users.
A user commented, “This is really disgusting crime. Companies only focus on sales number, they forget quality and it's ill effects on consumer health. Company should be heavily penalized so that they never do such irresponsible activities.”
Within this, another user shared a similar experience with Amul quoting “Hi I had similar issues with a pack of curd. I did tweet about that with a picture.”
Amul on centipede in ice cream
Promptly reacting on the post, Amul requested the woman to return the ice cream tub for investigation, regretting on the inconvenience.
Sharing the picture of the ice-cream tub, the company posted on its social media account, “This has reference to a social media post released by Mrs. Deepa Devi from Noida at around 2.30 PM on 15/06/2024 regarding Amul Ice Cream which had a foreign matter on the lid of the ice cream tub. The complaint was responded immediately by Amul on social media, and we received the contact number of the customer at 3:43 PM.”
Amul added, “The customer is CEO and co-founder of Ujjwal Unnati foundation as per her profile in the social media with more than 26,000 followers on Facebook. We deeply regret the inconvenience caused to her because of this incident.”
“The Amul team was trying to contact the customer continuously and was allowed to meet after 9:30 PM on the same day, despite numerous interviews given by the customer to the media in the same period,” the company added.

Adding to the post, the company said, “During the interaction, the customer was informed and assured about Amul's state of the art ISO certified plants which are automated and pass through numerous stringent quality checks before offering any product for sale to the esteemed customers. We also invited the customer to visit our plant to assure them about the quality processes being followed at the manufacturing plants.”
The company also said that it has requested the customer to provide the said ice cream tub for investigation, however, unfortunately the customer has refused to hand over the same.
“Unless the complaint pack is retrieved from the customer it would be difficult for us to investigate the matter and hence comment specifically on the issue which involves pack and supply chain integrity as well,” Amul said.

Several users bashed the brand, one user said, “accept your mistake and try to rectify it, rather than blaming the customer. Your product has betrayed the confidence that the customer had on Amul Brand name.”
