Bhopal: Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan travelled by train to reach Bhopal on Sunday, marking his first visit to the city since assuming office as the Union Agriculture Minister. The senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and his wife boarded the Shatabdi Express from Delhi.
Chouhan took on the role of Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's new Cabinet on June 11. He has also been given the Ministry of Rural Development. The senior BJP leader became a Union Cabinet minister for the first time in his political career spanning more than three decades.
Sharing his travelling experience on a train, the Union Minister wrote on X, “Today I am travelling in 'Shatabdi Express' train from New Delhi. The experience of travelling during this time is extremely enjoyable. Under the guidance of the Honorable Prime Minister Shri @narendramodiji and the vision of Railway Minister Shri @AshwiniVaishnawji, Indian Railways is witnessing revolutionary changes in all areas of management and operations.”
He added, “Indian Railways is continuously working to meet the fast-paced needs of New India and to make the journey of passengers economical, safe and comfortable.”
The Bharatiya Janata Party, along with several social and employee organisations, has arranged a grand reception at over 65 locations in Bhopal.
Chouhan left Delhi on Sunday morning and is expected to arrive at Bhopal station at 2:15 pm, where he will receive a grand welcome from BJP workers and supporters. During his journey on the Shatabdi Express, local BJP workers met Chouhan at Morena, Gwalior, and Bina stations in the state.
Notably, Chouhan secured victory from Madhya Pradesh's Vidisha Lok Sabha seat, defeating Congress' Pratapbhanu Sharma by a huge margin of 8,21,408 votes.
A six-time Member of Parliament, Chouhan served as Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh from 2005 until the state assembly elections in 2023, with a brief interruption of 15 months when the Congress briefly held power after the 2018 assembly polls.
