Naveen-ul-Haq was among the stars of the show as Afgahnistan created history by defeating Australia for the first time in international cricket during the 2024 T20 World Cup clash on Saturday (June 22) at the Arnos Vale Stadium in St. Vincient.

Naveen set the tone for the Rashid Khan-led outfit with the ball after they put up a solid total of 148 on the board. Naveen dismissed star Australian opener Travis Head for a three-ball duck to leave the Mitchell Marsh-led outfit in a spot of bother from the start of the chase.

This is the second time in less than a year that Naveen has dismissed Head for a duck, having also done so in the 2023 Cricket World Cup clash between the two sides in November at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium.

After the game, Naveen-Ul-Haq and West Indies star Nicholas Pooran appeared to take what seemed like a dig at KL Rahul. Pooran posted an Instagram story that recalled a past conversation with the Afghanistan pacer in which Naveen expressed confidence in being able to get Head's wicket with the new ball. 'U did say, if you get the new ball u will do that,' wrote Pooran. 'You remember it,' replied Naveen.

For those unversed, both Pooran and Naveen play for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the IPL under the captaincy of Rahul. Earlier this year, Head was responsible for handing LSG arguably their most embarrassing defeat in history as SRH beat them by 10 wickets by chasing down a total of 166 in 9.4 overs. Head (89 of 30) and Abhishek Sharma (75 of 28) put up an unbeaten opening partnership of 167 runs in 58 balls.

It is worth noting that Rahul introduced Naveen into the attack only in the fifth over, with Krishanppa Gowtham, Yash Thakur, and Ravi Bishnoi all bowling before him.

This game is remembered for causing outrage among cricket fans as LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka had an animated chat with Rahul after the match finished, which was caught by the cameras.
