Celebs speak out on Darshan murder case, call out ‘hero worship’ culture
After actor Darshan, his rumoured girlfriend Pavithra Gowda and 11 others were arrested for the alleged murder of the actor’s fan, Renuka Swamy from Chitradurga, several protests were reported in Bengaluru. Die-hard fans of Darshan reportedly set buses on fire and gathered in front of the police station, calling for the actor’s release.
Request people not to provoke each other on social media: Karnataka film bodyFollowing strong calls banning actor Darshan from the industry, the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) has said that it will take a call on banning actor Darshan after the conclusion of the police probe. KFCC president, NM Suresh said, “Since this is a murder case, it is a sensitive issue. Darshan has some films lined up. Crores of money are at stake. Hence, we can’t decide in haste. I request people not to provoke each other on social media over this issue.”
Darshan’s son, Pavithra’s daughter face harassment onlineFollowing the arrest, the children of the accused have also been subjected to online harassment. Darshan’s 15-year-old son addressed the online abuse he received on social media, pleading for respect during this difficult time. “Thank you all for all the bad comments and offensive language towards my father and not considering that I am a 15-year-old with feelings, and even during this hard time when my mom and dad required support, cursing at me won’t change that (sic).” The Instagram account of the daughter of Darshan’s fellow accused, Pavithra, was also filled with hateful comments, forcing her to disable her comments section.
