Vodafone Idea 5G Launch, News: Vodafone (Vi) completed the minimum rollout obligation (MRO) for all 5G circles, the Company announced in a statement. Vi is ramping up its efforts by raising funds and seeking loans to compete against Bharti Airtel and Reliance's Jio in the cutthroat race of 5G services across India. After the successful completion of the requirements, Vi will move ahead of its plans to rollout the high-speed spectrum in a full-fledged manner across the country and offer its customers the 5G services.

Every telecom company must meet the Department of Telecom's (DoT) minimum 5G rollout obligations within a specified deadline. Failing to maintain obligations within deadline will risk of losing their allocated spectrum.

Vi's Rs 18k cr FPO for 5G

A while ago, the joint venture of Aditya Birla Group and UK's Vodafone Group PLC raised investment by participating in an Rs 18-crores follow-on public offer (FPO).

Vi is lagging behind against Jio and Airtel in the 5G rollout due to insufficient funds. Now, it is planning to use the funds raised through FPO in network expansion and the crucial rollout of 5G services.

Worry for Vi

Vi is facing the loss of customers as it is unable to provide 5G services to customers. “We have shut down 3G completely in 6 circles with Kerala getting added to the list of 5 other circles; namely Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Mumbai and Kolkata where 3G spectrum is completely refarmed to 4G,” the company said.

Jio and Airtel are rapidly expanding its 5G network across India.
