Why Is G7 Reaching Out To Africa - Growing Importance Of Africa In Global Business & Diplomacy

The ongoing G7 summit hosted by Italy has a special focus on Africa. Now all the countries including India have mentioned Africa to be one of the most important focus areas of the summit. Hello, my name is Abhinav Trivedi and you watching? Mint explains now a special session Just focus on investments and infrastructure projects in Africa was already happening. While we were speaking. The Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment program was high on the agenda. Now projects in Africa would include a rail corridor. That will connect southern and central Africa. The project will also bring telecommunication cables and other infrastructure to the region. The infrastructure investments are meant to serve as an alternative to Chinas development efforts, which the US and its allies seek to contain. Now Canada, Germany and European Union, as well as representatives from Italian and American private companies such as ENI and Microsoft are also participating in this investment program. One of the G7 S priorities is developing ties with Africa, where other powers have long been present. Africa leaders, including the president of Algeria and South Africa, have been invited to the summit. Italian Prime Minister Giorgio Maloney has made Africa a central plank of a foreign policy since taking office in late 2022. But the question, ladies and gentlemen, is why is Africa so important suddenly? Well, it is not sudden. You see, Africa has been long exploited with civil wars. Corrupt governments and regimes, extreme poverty, malnutrition spiraling into a health pandemic across the continent. The entire continent is extremely rich in minerals mines which produce elements required in modern day electronic telecommunications and warfare, alternative trade routes, diamonds and immense potential for global technology and climate market. Now, China and Russia have been making lots of investments over the past two decades in the form of debt and equity across the African continent. Now this of course is not in keen interest of countries like USUK, Italy and France. They want to regulate this influence of China and Russia. Not only that, India too, which is relatively new to between the Eastern and Western powers is also pitching for the global South and wants to include African continent in it so as to extend its influence in the region as well.
