Through the Years: Emma Watson
Having been around the movie business since the age of nine, the gorgeous Emma Watson truly grew up in front of our eyes, transforming herself from a nerdy young wizard into an eco minded fashion darling. Premiering Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, the first installment of the immensely popular franchise, a fresh faced Watson rocked up in a floor length Gray dress with a plum colored stole and matching hair accessory. Purple hues were clearly favored by the actress at the beginning of her career as she also selected this lavender dress with a purple coat. For the opening of the Chamber of Secrets a year later and promoting The Prisoner of Azkaban, she wore a lovely mauve evening gown with tool overlay and white floral detail on the shoulder. Emma changed things up for the fourth film though, turning up at the New York screening of The Goblet of Fire in an elegant semi sheer Navy number. Two years later, the actress discovered the practical side of this Chanel dress as she premiered The Order of the Phoenix in rainy London. This is Chanel, but it's getting rather wet. But it seems quite waterproof, which I'm quite happy about. I don't know how that worked out, but it kind of is. I know I've got my umbrella. It's fine. And hopping over to New York, she's shone bright in another creation from the French fashion house, this time selecting a white roll neck dress decorated with some mysterious pill shaped beads. Wow. It could be anything. It could be vitamins, it could be medicine, it, I don't know. It's cool. I thought it was really like new, unique and kind of fun and young and different. And I love this dress. I absolutely love it. And the back's really cool too. I love the back. Unveiling 2009's The Half Blood, Prince, Watson opted for something a bit more bohemian and premiering the Deathly Hallows Part One the following year, the actress looked all grown up in a lace and feather LBD by Rafael Lopez, sporting a new Pixie hairdo. Finally, to debut the last installment of the franchise, Deathly Hallows Part 2, Emma went with a dreamy Oscar de la Renta ball gown featuring a voluminous tulle skirt at the world premiere in London. I actually dreamed it in my head. I was like, I know exactly what I want to wear. And then I saw this dress hanging off and I just knew that that was this was the one. And a few days later she's stunned in this amber Bottega Venetta creation in New York, with slicked back hair and a dark smoky eye adding a sultry touch to the look. In 2012, Emma premiered her first post Potter film, The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Opting for a very fashion forward look, she selected a sort of upside down little white dress by German designer Serkan Sarriage. She then unleashed her true inner glamour girl at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival for The Bling Ring, pairing a black and white Chanel dress with some pretty blingy rings of her own in her left ear. The movie gave Watson an excellent perspective on social media. We're constantly sort of making this virtual diary of our lives, all the time collecting these photographs and images, and I think there are some amazing things about the way that technology is enabling us to communicate. So it's not too surprising that Emma first opened her Instagram account just over a year later in the summer of 2014. Many of her posts detail how she combines her love of fashion with supporting the environment. At the 2016 Met Gala, she partnered with Calvin Klein to create a custom gown from Sustainable Materials. And let us know that Stella McCartney does not use leather, skins, feathers, or fur, and Christian Dior supports local artisans. In February of 2017, Watson kicked off the press tour for the Disney flick Beauty and the Beast by also kicking off a second Instagram account dedicated to her eco friendly wardrobe in Paris. She chose a bright blue look from Louis Vuitton made out of recycled plastic bottles. She looked like a real Princess in London wearing Amelia Wickstead. Elie Saab made Watson a special dress for Shanghai out of leftover fabric from previous collections, and she was the belle of the ball at the LA premiere in a sleek black Oscar de la Renta jumpsuit with gold accents in her hair and a rose brooche at her hip. Earning an MTV Movie Award for her performance in the flick, Emma picked up her trophy in a dress that was created from organic silk and recycled polyester yarn, while her shoes were made from repurposed micro suede, her earring from the sustainable jewelry company Forevermark, and even her makeup was cruelty free and made from all natural ingredients. At the Golden Globe Awards in January the following year, Watson stepped out to honor the Time's Up movement and appropriately wore an all black look from Dutch designer Ronald Fender Kim for the Oscars Vanity Fair after party. A few weeks later, she continued to show her support and rocked up in this vintage Ralph Lauren gown featuring intricate chain detailing and sporting a temporary times of tattoo on her right forearm. After taking a little bit of a break, the star returned to the spotlight in December 2019 when promoting the remake of Little Women, posing alongside her Co stars in a black ruffled Balanciaga dress. Well on her way to becoming a real red carpet veteran. Emma Watson has created a fashion portfolio that's chic beyond her years, and we can't wait to see what she wears next.
