Should Commanders Sign All-Pro O-Lineman?
As much as ever, the Washington Commanders are very much in the business of protecting an investment, protecting the future and protecting the quarterback.
Yes, much revolves around Jayden Daniels.
And that's why the idea of Washington entertaining a signing of former Green Bay offensive tackle David Bakhtiari sounds like a valid one.
Should Commanders Sign All-Pro O-Lineman?
Veteran Cornelius Lucas as the left tackle? Serviceable at best. Shove rookie third-rounder Brandon Coleman over there? Risky and premature.
A healthy Bakhtiari would be by leaps and bounds a far more credentialed answer.
"Healthy'' is the key word. He played just one game last season and has played in just 13 games over the past three seasons as he has been plagued by knee injuries requiring multiple surgeries.
Bakhtiari will turn 33 in September, and he's going to really want to do this. Does he want to fight his way back on to the field? Does he want to do it in a new place like Washington? Could he find an offer from a more legit contender?
We've seen speculation that Bakhtiari might come at a reasonable cost. We frankly hve no way of knowing that - and the Commanders don't, either. But his credentials are stellar - he's made five All-Pro teams - and we bet D.C.'s first-round pick Daniels would sure like the idea.
