We’re still in shock that Coronation Street icon Gail (Rodwell) Platt, is set to leave the cobbles after 50 years.
Of course, the only farewell that Gail, and star Helen Worth, deserve is a happy one. This got us thinking about the very best sunset endings soap land has delivered over the years.
We’ve rounded up the best of the bunch below, so without further ado, let’s relive the most delightful farewells in EastEnders, Emmerdale, Coronation Street and Hollyoaks.
Let’s dive in!
Kat Slater and Alfie Moon, 2005, EastEnders
After the locals threw him a birthday party, dying Jack said a quiet farewell, slipped away from the pub and died at home in his armchair.
As the song Softly As I Leave You played in the background, Jack was joined in the afterlife by his beloved ‘Swan Duck’ Vera, with Liz Dawn reprising her role after her alter ego’s 2008 death.
The couple shared a dance as Vera confirmed she had been waiting for Jack. Tyrone was heartbroken to find his father figure had passed away, but viewers knew that Jack was happy and at peace with the love of his life.
Courtney Campbell, 2021, Hollyoaks
