Red carpet queen Anya Taylor-Joy trademarks name in bid to launch clothes brand

Check Anya Taylor-Joy’s next move – she aims to launch her own clothes after ­trademarking her name.

The Queen’s Gambit star, 28, aims to capitalise on her global success by taking control of her brand. She has logged the name Anya with the Intellectual Property Office to cover music recordings and endorsements, as well as clothing. The move will come as no surprise to the fans of Dior ambassador Anya. Queen of the red carpet, she took promo events for her new films – Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga and Dune: Part Two – by storm with her ­risk-taking outfits.

And she clearly scrubbed up well after her title role in Mad Max. Anya told how she was coated in seven layers of filth for the post-apocalyptic action flick, but loved getting “down and dirty” in the grittiest film of her career. Anya said: “I’ve been so dirty and bloody my entire career – and that has nothing on this film. It was seven layers of blood and dirt and at one point I was, like, ‘Woah, OK’.”

Anya, who was born in the US and raised in Britain, left school at 16 to become an actress. At 17, she was scouted as a model by Storm Management founder Sarah Doukas while walking her dog near Harrods in Knightsbridge, London. She signed with the agency on the condition that acting remain her first passion.

Her breakthrough came in 2015 horror film The Witch, but her career really took off after she played chess prodigy Beth Harmon in Netflix’s The Queen’s Gambit. She has also starred in Peaky Blinders as Gina Grey. Anya married her musician partner Malcolm McRae in New Orleans in 2022. She will next star opposite Miles Teller in Scott Derrickson’s romantic action film, The Gorge.
