Trump makes stunning concession about Biden's speech at North Carolina rally the day after 'monster' debate

In a shocking move, Donald Trump had something nice to say about President Biden's comeback speech in North Carolina following his disastrous debate performance.

Biden appeared far more energetic and virile the day after he floundered at Thursday night's debate, with Trump saying on Truth Social that he 'seemed to be coming out of his trance.'

'His speech on Friday was better... but AMERICA must ask itself, with all of the many dangers around, do we really want a President who CHOKES? I don’t think so!' he added.

It comes as Biden fired back at the New York Times after the outlet called on him to step aside from the presidential race, noting that he won in 2020 without the publication's support in that election either.

In his Truth Social post, Trump took the opportunity to slam Biden's performance at the debate, as he admitted that 'strange things happen in big time politics.'

'During my debate on Thursday night with Crooked Joe Biden, the worst President in the history of our Country, and the person that is illegally, and strictly for political gain, trying to put me in jail, I watched a man, first hand, “CHOKE” under tremendous pressure, the likes of which he has never seen before,' Trump wrote.

'The strain of the illegality being used by his “Injustice” Department, the FBI, local Attorney Generals, and D.A.’s, have put an additional strain on him.

'FAKE NEWS CNN just announced that, at 51,300,000 viewers, it was the highest rated show in the history of CNN - and that doesn’t include other places it was shown.'

Trump implied that the 'monster' debate night viewership got to Biden, as he said the pressure 'could be plainly and openly felt onstage.'

'His speech on Friday was better, and he seems to be coming out of his trance, but AMERICA must ask itself, with all of the many dangers around, do we really want a President who CHOKES? I don’t think so!' the post concluded.

Many observers of the debate felt that Trump came out on top thanks to having more energy and vigor compared to Biden, even as a number of lies and mistruths went unchecked

Trump and Biden each held competing rallies the day after the debate on Friday, with the president's North Carolina event making headlines due to Biden's apparent higher energy.

The president used the rally to assuage the widespread concerns as some of his closest allies including Obama publicly stood behind him behind him despite admitting the performance was bad.

'I know I'm not a young man. To state the obvious,' Biden said alongside First Lady Jill while she wore a Christian Siriano dress covered in the word 'vote.'

'Folks, I don't walk as easily as I used to. I don't speak as smoothly as I used to. I don't debate as well as I used to.'

'But I know what I know - I know how to tell the truth. I know right from wrong. And I know how to do this job. I know how to get things done,' the president argued.

'I give you my word as a Biden. I would not be running again if I didn't believe with all my heart and soul that I could do this job,' he said.

Biden's campaign took an apparent hit following the debate as the New York Times editorial board publicly called for him to drop out of the presidential race.

The Times previously jointly endorsed two Democratic presidential candidates Amy Klobuchar and Elizabeth Warren in 2020 instead of Biden.

But despite being snubbed by the prestigious broadsheet, Biden would go on to win his party's nomination and defeat Trump in November 2020.

On Friday the editorial board of the Times wrote Biden 'is not the man he was four years ago' and criticized his rationale for running, saying it was a 'reckless gamble.'.

A senior adviser to the president told CNN: 'The last time Joe Biden lost the New York Times editorial board's endorsement, it turned out pretty well for him.'
