Trump celebrates 'BIG WIN' at Supreme Court while Dems sound alarms

  • Donald Trump celebrated the court's decision as a 'BIG WIN'
  • Democrats have called the decision a sad day for the country
  • READ MORE: Supreme Court releases decision on presidential immunity

Former President Donald Trump is celebrating a perceived victory while Democrats are sounding alarms after the conservative majority on the Supreme Court ruled a president does have immunity for official acts.

The six-three decision is a major blow to Special Counsel Jack Smith's cases against the ex-president.

'BIG WIN FOR OUR CONSTITUTION AND DEMOCRACY. PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN!'  Trump wrote on Truth Social immediately following release of the Supreme Court decision on Monday.

The majority on the country's highest court ruled the president does have immunity from prosecution for official acts in office. The president does not have immunity for unofficial acts, the majority concluded.

The three liberal justices dissented and raised concerns about what the decision means for democracy arguing the constitution does not 'shield a former President from answering for criminal and treasonous acts.'

The ex-president in a separate Truth Social post said the decision should end all the criminal cases against him including the New York convictions and the civil fraud case.

Trump was joined in his praise of the Supreme Court decision by fellow Republicans who celebrated the court decision on presidential powers.

Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson called the ruling a 'victory for former President Trump and all future presidents and another defeat for President Biden’s weaponized Department of Justice and Jack Smith.'

GOP Senator Roger Marshall wrote on X that the Supreme Court made the right decision.

'We must maintain strong presidential immunity protections to ensure our leaders can make tough decisions without fear of political retribution,' he wrote.

Senator Marsha Blackburn claimed the decision 'rebukes Democrats’ blatant attempts to weaponize our legal system against Donald Trump.'

As Republicans hailed the decision, Democrats started melting down.

Speaking on behalf of the Biden campaign on Monday, Congressman Dan Goldman said the decision sets back democracy dramatically.

'It is a sweeping and devastating opinion for our separation of powers and for our fundamental belief and notion that no one is above the law,' Goldman said.

He pointed out the implication is that there will be no trial in Trump's election interference case before the election.

President Biden's deputy campaign manager blasted the Supreme Court decision. Quentin Fulks said Trump has become more 'unhinged' since the January 6 attack and because of the court decision, he is 'unchecked'

Biden's deputy campaign manager Quentin Fulks said the decision does not change the facts that the American people saw what happened on January 6, 2021. He called Trump of being desperate and unstable and accused him of encouraging a mob to try and over throw the election.

'Since that fateful day, Trump has only grown more unhinged, and now he's unchecked,' Fulks said.

'Today’s Supreme Court decision to grant legal immunity to a former President for crimes committed using his official power sets a dangerous precedent for the future of our nation,' said House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries in a statement.

'This disgraceful decision by the MAGA SCOTUS—which is comprised of 3 justices appointed by Trump himself—enables the former President to weaken our democracy by breaking the law,' wrote Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer on X.

'It undermines SCOTUS's credibility and suggests political influence trumps all in our courts today,' he said.

Former Attorney General Eric Holder, who served under President Obama, wrote of the decision 'Our democracy has been gravely wounded.'
