Bayern Munich is doing anything to sell Leon Goretzka; Julian Nagelsmann had a reason not to call him up
According to a report from Tz’s Philipp Kessler and Manuel Bonke (as captured by Twitter account @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich has put Leon Goretzka on top of the list of players to be sold:
Leon Goretzka is high on Bayern’s list of players for sale. The problem is that so far there are no notable interested parties. Goretzka was already a candidate for sale last summer but there were no buyers either. In addition, Goretzka is under contract until 2026 and is one of the club’s higher earners - so the incentive to move is not there yet. The people in charge at Bayern are aware that they can’t force players to move.
However, due to increased competition and low prospect of playing time, some players, including Goretzka, could end up considering a transfer. The midfielder is said to cause unrest when he doesn’t start, which is one of the reasons Julian Nagelsmann didn’t call him up for the Euros.
The last line might explain Germany coach and former Bayern manager Julian Nagelsmann’s decision not to call him up, even when Aleksandar Pavlović had to withdraw from the squad; Emre Can was chosen instead.
Manchester United and Juventus have expressed interest in the 29-year-old former Schalke midfielder.
