Philadelphia 76ers Targeting Two Top NBA Free Agents, per Report
The Philadelphia 76ers ended the 2023-24 NBA regular season at 47-35.
Eliminated by the New York Knicks in the first round of the postseason, Philadelphia still seems to be looking for the right collection of players to surround superstar big man Joel Embiid.
According to NBA insider Marc Stein, the 76ers are likely to continue taking swings this summer. Stein suggested Sunday that Philadelphia could attempt to land both Paul George and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope in free agency.
"League sources tell The Stein Line that the ever-ambitious 76ers have explored the feasibility of/cap gymnastics required to try to land both Paul George and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope in free agency," Stein reported.
George, arguably the top free agent available this offseason, declined his player option for the 2024-25 NBA season. The 34-year-old forward averaged 22.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game for the Clippers last year.
NBA insider Shams Charania reported Saturday that Philadelphia is one of three teams George plans to speak with at the start of free agency.
Caldwell-Pope, meanwhile, also declined his player option in order to become a free agent this summer.
The two-time NBA champion made 76 starts for the Nuggets in 2023-24, averaging 10.1 points in 31.6 minutes per game.

The 76ers are also expected to extend star guard Tyrese Maxey this offseason.
It's going to be a busy summer in Philly.
