This is how Vincent Kompany won over Bayern Munich’s board
Signing Vincent Kompany as the new manager of the Bayern Munich squad raised quite a few eyebrows, and more than just a few were (maybe still aren’t) not convinced by the Belgian’s ability to win titles for the Rekordmeister. But, it looks like Kompany won over the board through sheer belief in his own ability, and by sharing his vision for the club.
In his first conversation with Bayern’s bosses, specifically Uli Hoeneß, Herbert Hainer, and Max Eberl, Kompany was reportedly very confident in the way he talked, and said ‘I’m a leader’. The board was impressed by the confidence he had in his own abilities, especially once he further explained his role at Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. He spoke about how he ‘took care of the dressing room’, and how he quickly became the boss at City.
Further, the Belgian was very clear cut about the vision he has for Bayern. He wants a team where every player fights for the their position, but he also wants to set the foundations of a new hierarchy. Signing on Hiroki Itō and extending the contracts of Aleksandar Pavlović as well as Josip Stanišić was all a part of Kompany’s plans for the club. Is he cooking another sextuple for Bayern? Or is this about to crash and burn? Time will tell.
