How Ayo Edebiri Stepped into Directing, at the Premiere of 'The Bear' Season Three
Hi, what's up, director? What was it like saying action for the first time on the set of The Bear? Cool. Did you did you rehearse? No, no, just do it. How does that conversation happen? Do you go to them and say, I want to direct you there? It it it happened kind of naturally. I've known Chris since I was like 21 or 22 and and I am a writer and. Don't have as many credits these past few months as I have before, but we met because of TV writing and he was like, you are a director, you're a producer, you're a producer and. Kind of as I've grown, he's sort of continued to, I don't know, support me and so. Yeah, Season 2 I was just shadowing pretty much every day. And then that kind of led to season three and how when you're directing, your cast mates have been your cast mates. You know, you're sort of in that boss position. Was there anything that was uncomfortable? Like you're like, do that again? No, Well, no, because you know, I'll just say I'll shout out the DGA. They have a class for first time TV directors and I got to take that class. And a lot of that class is comprised of people who've also worked in the industry, but they haven't directed before and so. We got to have amazing conversations from different vantage points when writers, editors, 80s, other actors. On, you know what it's like being directed, you know, your experiences with directors. And I think a lot of that conversation, like, really informed how I got to be during prep and on set. Yeah. I didn't realize I have a class for her, the DGA rules. I love my Guild, I love all my unions, but I'm shouting at the Guild at this very moment.
