H Samuel launches 'permanent jewellery' by welding bracelets directly onto wrists

H Samuel has launched a new craze of 'permanent jewellery' that involves welding bracelets directly onto customers' wrists, sparking a social media frenzy as pals and partners use it to symbolise their bond. The latest fashion statement is designed to be a lasting accessory, Yorkshire Live reports.

Unlike traditional pieces, these bracelets are welded on, creating a 'seamless design' with no clasps and are intended for continuous wear, H Samuel explains on their site. It adds that if customers change their mind, permanent jewellery can still be removed simply by cutting it off.

The brand suggests that 'permanent jewellery can be a sign of commitment and hold special meaning whether it's adding sentimental charms or getting a matching one with your BFF as a symbol of your friendship.' H Samuel's 'Perfect Weld' service is aimed at customers from the age of seven, with under 16s required to have a parent or guardian present.

The welding takes place during a 30-minute slot at select stores across the UK, including in Kent, Essex, London, Newcastle, Liverpool, Birmingham and Sheffield. An H Samuel spokesperson said: "Our trained welding experts will help you choose your chain, curate charms, and measure your wrist to find your desired length for welding. It is then time to get welded.

"The process only takes a few minutes as the chain is welded around your wrist. The high heat used by our laser closes the loop in such a way that it will not come undone and there is no need for a clasp. The result? A piece of permanent jewellery you'll want to wear forever."

H Samuel's permanent jewellery collection is crafted from high-quality materials like 925 sterling silver, 14/20 gold filled, and 9ct white, yellow and rose gold, steering clear of base metals or cheap alloys to minimise skin reactions. The brand assures customers that their permanent bling can withstand daily activities, including swimming and showering, boasting its durability for continuous wear.

However, H Samuel does caution that the welding point on permanent jewellery may weaken over time with prolonged exposure to chlorine, recommending a rinse with fresh water after a dip in chlorinated or salt water, followed by a gentle pat dry.

"The best thing about permanent jewellery is that it is welded on and designed to be worn forever," said a spokesperson for the company. "But if you do need to remove it, you can visit us in-store to have it cut by someone from our dedicated welding team, or carefully at home yourself using nail clippers."

The cost of these everlasting accessories varies based on the choice of material, finish, chain type, and any additional charms. While there's no charge for the welding service at H Samuel, customers will pay for the jewellery itself, with prices start at £40 for permanent bracelets and £30 for charms.

Welded jewellery can currently be found at H Samuel's outlets in Bluewater Shopping Centre, Kent, Lakeside Shopping Centre, Thurrock, Metrocentre in Gateshead, Liverpool One, Oxford Circus, Birmingham Bullring and Sheffield Meadowhall stores. Alternatively, Astrid and Miyu also provide a jewellery welding service at various locations across the UK.
