I stayed in Britain's cheapest hotel for £16 a night - I'd go again

  • George Redfern, 21, from Merseyside, stayed at Coco Beach Hotel in Blackpool

A man who stayed in Britain's cheapest hotel has revealed why he would go back to the budget guesthouse.

George Redfern, 21, from Wirral, Merseyside, opted to stay at the Coco Beach Hotel in Blackpool, Lancashire for £16-a-night earlier this month in spite of its lowly two-star rating on Booking.com.

But George gave the hotel a favourable rating based on his experience, awarding it three out of five stars.

Given the price he paid for each night of his stay, the reasons for his positive review might be surprising.

Due to the cheap cost however, he revealed that he was prepared not to expect to have been waited on hand and foot by personal butlers.

A writer who stayed in Britain's cheapest hotel for the bargain price of just £16 per night has revealed why they would choose to do so again

George Redfern, 21, from Wirral, Merseyside, opted to stay at the Coco Beach Hotel in Blackpool, Lancashire earlier this month in spite of its lowly two-star rating on Booking.com

George said: 'I knew a bit of what I looked like, and I knew it was going to be a run down hotel. I knew it wasn't going to be the nicest.'

He also shared why he would choose to stay there again in the future after he was full of praise for the hotel after his first visit.

George continued: 'It surprised me how clean it was for a hotel that cheap, and I probably would stay there again.'

He did encounter one small issue - but this was not concerning the general condition of his bedroom.

George said that he had to be helped by an individual from another hotel to enter his accommodation in Blackpool as the landlord's phone was broken - but this was the only issue of not.

Giving a verdict on the state of his room, George noted that while it was in a clean, tidy and presentable state, there were some marks on the curtains.

He added: 'For the price it was a clean, but there was marks on the curtains, and I noticed that quite early.'

He also mentioned there was a sprayed substance on the wall - something he warned could put other potential guests off.

'I got free towel, coffee facilities. There wasn't much room in the room itself. The bed was clean, and the floor was clean but the shower didn't get too hot.'

In what may come as a surprise to many, George gave the hotel a favourable rating based on his experience, awarding it three out of five stars

George's stay comes after he stayed at the White Moon Hotel in the same town for a grand total of just £9 back in March.

Although he revealed some alleged issues including a leak in the ceiling, a cracked mirror, and broken light sockets and lightbulbs, George still gave the hotel a five-star review.

George said: 'My expectations were very low as I have stayed in many cheap or low-rated hotels before [so] I thought nothing different - basic essentials, probably a little dirty, but bearable.'

'I think for the price of my room, it was actually a good stay.

'The room was big. I had a working TV, bathroom was clean, the heating was very good and kept me warm. I also thought the bed was really comfy.

'I didn't complain about any of the issues - the cracked mirror didn't really bother me and neither did the plug socket, even if it is a little dangerous how exposed that was!

'The two missing lightbulbs annoyed me as the room was already dark, but I couldn't complain because it was so cheap.

'I have stayed in a hotel room before for £17 but that was for one person so this one I stayed in recently was for two guests at £18 - which brings the cost down by half.'
