Stormy & soggy start to the long weekend in The Prairies
We've been tracking active weather across the southern Prairies on Thursday, but this threat persists into Thursday, overnight, and even into Friday. Now here's a look at the thunderstorm risk for Friday. We do have a region of severe possible for the most extreme portions of the Prairies for very heavy rain. Some strong wind gusts and large hail is also a possibility. Now here's looking at the overnight Thursday into Friday morning. Look at this low as it slowly circulates over southern Saskatchewan and particularly over Saskatoon, bringing about that very large risk at widespread torrential rain. Take a look at all the moisture in this atmosphere. It's going to slowly make its way eastward, but we are going to see pretty high amounts of rain. Some could see upwards of 75 millimeters of rain just South of the Saskatoon area and pretty much stretching the width of the Yellowhead Hwy. from Hinton all the way down to Winnipeg, getting that largest swath of rainfall. Now we do have the potential for stronger storms to continue on Friday. We did see some roll through Thursday evening, but it is more so minimal for tornado risk and more so for very heavy rainfall.
