Rainfall totals of 80 mm could hit Saskatoon and area: Environment Canada
The cool wet weather has been slowing down crop growth, but some farmers are just happy for the moisture after a few dry years. In those years I told myself I would never complain about rain. So this year, well there is definitely adequate rain and I'm not complaining. Willems Farm is north of Saskatoon. His crops are around a week behind compared to last year. You know it's a it's way behind because last year we were about two weeks ahead. According to the latest crop report, oil seeds are the furthest behind, followed by spring wheat. Over the past week, rainfall varied in the province, the southwest getting next to none, while parts of the Northeast and SE were overwhelmed. The frequent moisture even causing some reports of disease. So producers are are watching that in the upcoming weeks and and taking some control measures with fungicide applications if needed in those regions as well. We've seen more rain this June than in previous years, but Terry Lang with Environment and Climate Change Canada says. It's not out of the ordinary. The Saskatoon area hit with a rainfall warning Thursday with 40 to 60 millimeters expected. We could see even higher amounts, 8090 a hundred in some isolated areas. So folks should be prepared for that. Thankfully it will move through quickly, but. Given how much rain we've already had this month, the the soils might be a little slow to pick up on that. The sun will shine on Regina and Saskatoon this weekend. Just don't expect the hot, dry weather to stick around, much to the dismay of some farmers. Right now I've got very adequate moisture and I don't have enough heat and I would sure like some sunshine to go with that. Trillion Redelson Global News.
