“Stranger Things”' Joseph Quinn teases potential return as Eddie Munson in season 5: 'I might have that feeling'

Is another guitar solo on the horizon?

We might not have seen the last of Eddie Munson in the Upside Down.

Joseph Quinn, who played the fan-favorite Stranger Things character in season 4 of the Netflix series, teased a possible return to the show in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. When a journalist noted that they had a feeling Munson might appear in the fifth and final season of the series, Quinn slyly responded, "I might have that feeling, too. Or maybe I don't. Who knows? I don't know! Who knows? Maybe I do.”

Viewers last saw Eddie Munson in the season 4 finale of Stranger Things, when he heroically sacrificed himself by fending off otherworldly bats in the Upside Down. Eddie seemingly died in the arms of Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) after being critically wounded by the creatures, though the vague supernatural forces of the Stranger Things world may find a way to revive him. (Or he could return via flashback, or dream sequence, or any number of methods that don’t involve the dead rising.)

Quinn also said that "chances are high" that he’d happily reconnect with his Stranger Things castmates.

"I love those guys! I'd love to come and say hello," he said. "I'm sure they're working very hard to land the plane. It's been a long time that they've been working on that, so I'm really delighted that they're kind of getting towards the end, and they're having a nice time. I'm sure they're gonna deliver it in a pretty epic finale. I have no doubts."

Quinn’s career has exploded since his time on the Netflix series came to an end. He co-stars alongside Lupita Nyong’o in A Quiet Place: Day One, which hits theaters Friday, and will also play a villainous role in Ridley Scott’s Gladiator II opposite Paul Mescal and Denzel Washington.

Quinn previewed his work in that sword-and-sandals epic in an interview with Entertainment Weekly in April. “We all were very aware of the legacy of the first film,” he said. “So many people get misty-eyed about it. So going anywhere near it again felt a little scary.”

He also noted that the scale of the film’s production blew his mind. “That's the thing with working on a film like that, it changes your perspective on things,” he said. “The fact that on a film of that scale, they built ancient Rome in Malta and to bear witness to that is truly awesome.”

Additionally, Quinn was cast as Johnny Storm/the Human Torch — a character previously portrayed by Chris Evans and Michael B. Jordan — in Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four. If that’s not enough, the actor is also reportedly attached to new films from Alex Garland (Ex Machina) and Bret Easton Ellis (who authored American Psycho).

Quinn previously discussed working on Fantastic Four with EW, revealing that the story's familial dynamic drew him to the role and that he hopes this version will appeal to audiences who might be experiencing so-called "superhero fatigue."

“There are aspects of it that are very different to other Marvel films,” he said. “There are aspects of it that are very much a singular thing and its own thing. That felt very compelling to me. I remember really enjoying Chris Evans' performance as Johnny in the previous films, and it felt like this would be a really exciting opportunity.
