Vikings Links: Who will be this year’s Mr Mankato?
Who will be this year’s Mr Mankato? Should it only be rookies or could it be other young players? I tend to think of rookies who we have not seen play in the NFL yet. Some candidates could be Gabriel Murphy, Dwight McGlothern, Khyree Jackson, Will Reichard, and Levi Drake Rodriguez.
The Vikings signed Murphy to a three-year, $2.8 million deal according to spotrac.
Fellow Vikings edge rusher Andre Carter II and Pace were graded as the top undrafted free agency (UDFA) signings after the 2023 draft and both garnered similar three-year deals worth $2.7 million each. Carter received $340,000 in guarantees — the most of UDFA in league history.
When you look at these amounts given, it would seem to me that the team is going to give Murphy and Pace every opportunity to make the 53 man roster.
I’d really like to see a defensive lineman win because the Vikings defensive line ranks 30th according to PFF and that might be generous. I am afraid it is going to continue to be a major concern until proven otherwise.

Vikings: Dallas Turner already flashing moves that Danielle Hunter never had
“The most notable moment came in a practice that was closed to reporters but was recounted by left tackle Christian Darrisaw. As Darrisaw described it, Turner put a spin move on another offensive lineman that was quicker than any of them had seen from four-time Pro Bowl pass-rusher Danielle Hunter, who recorded 87.5 sacks in eight seasons with the Vikings before signing a free agent contract with the Texans this spring.”
Analyst provides troubling take on Vikings rookie J.J. McCarthy
In the mind of Mile High Huddle’s Keith Cummings, McCarthy trails Nix in his development, offering great news for Broncos fans. On the other hand, it leaves Vikings fans on the defensive, hoping for a faster turnaround for McCarthy.
Here’s how Cummings put it:
“Nix has seemingly emerged from Denver’s OTA sessions looking like the more steady hand than McCarthy, despite some observers saying Jarrett Stidham came out on top overall,” he wrote.
He continued, explaining why Sean Payton was comfortable watching McCarthy join the Vikings:
“The knock on McCarthy heading into the draft was that his body of work was too thin to merit selling the farm for a team like the Broncos to trade up and get him. That’s why the Broncos were more than comfortable letting the Minnesota Vikings take McCarthy at No. 10 overall.”
