Coldplay makes history, Michael J Fox stuns with surprise cameo on stage. Here's what happened at Glastonbury on Saturday

Day four of Glastonbury — the UK's biggest music festival — was full of surprises.

From Coldplay's record-breaking headline set to street artist Banksy pulling off a stunt, there was something for everyone.

Here's what you may have missed.

Coldplay break a Glastonbury record

Coldplay are officially Glastonbury legends.

The rock band have overtaken The Cure to become the first band to headline the iconic UK festival a record five times.

Coldplay made their Glastonbury debut in the New Bands Tent back in 1999 and went on to headline the festival in:

  • 2002
  • 2005
  • 2011
  • 2016

And this year's performance saw the band pull out every last stop.

Flags, fireworks and confetti set the scene at Pyramid Stage as the band delivered hit after hit.

Frontman Chris Martin was treated to incredible scenes of about 100,000 fans illuminating the show ground with a sea of glowing wristbands (a quintessential part of all their shows).

Photos of the colossal audience are going viral on social media in the wake of the show.

Coldplay also brought out two special guests on stage: rapper Little Simz and Palestinian singer Elyanna.

Michael J Fox makes a surprise cameo

Never mind the fireworks and euphoric anthems; Coldplay gifted the crowd with something possibly better.

Back To The Future star Michael J Fox was brought onto the stage!

While Martin sang his tear-jerking song Fix You, Fox was seen strumming away on an electric guitar from his wheelchair.

As they wrapped the song, Martin thanked Fox for being the reason the band got together, as they all loved Back to the Future.

The Coldplay frontman also made up a small song, telling Fox:

"We just want to thank you, as humans go you're the best of all sorts, you're a musical charmer, you're the world's greatest farmer.

"Whoever got knighted wearing shorts? Thank you Michael, we love you."

Here's what a few fans wrote on social media:

"Is there anything more wholesome than watching Michael J Fox rocking out on stage with Coldplay at Glastonbury."

"Omg Michael J Fox. I'm in tears."

"Sobbing at Michael J Fox. Bawling. This is just the magic of music."

Banksy launches inflatable migrant boat artwork during performance

Here's one of the more viral moments of Glastonbury 2024.

During post-punk rockers Idles set, a prop appeared in the crowd depicting young refugees wearing life jackets in a small boat.

Many in the crowd believed it to be part of Idles' show, but this wasn't the case — they didn't even know about it.

A representative from the band announced on Saturday, local time, that the boat was created by street artist Banksy.

It was launched during the song Danny Nedelko, which opens with the lyrics:

My blood brother is an immigrant

A beautiful immigrant

Cyndi Lauper's set riddled with sound issues

Cyndi Lauper's Glastonbury performance didn't run as smoothly as the icon probably would've liked.

Plagued by sound problems, festival goers were struggling to hear the singer's vocals as her voice was drowned out by rumbling bass.

The issues appeared to resolve after the first few songs but when it was time to sing Time After Time, she lagged behind the band.

But in true style, the crowd came to the rescue, lifting Lauper up with fulsome singalong to hits such as True Colors and Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.

Speaking to BBC Breakfast after the set, she admitted there had been "technical difficulties" to endure.

"Sometimes you're up there and the sound is like, 'What?'" she said.

"But it doesn't matter because the spirit is there … The spirit of those people. That was great. I had fun."

Lauper treated fans to a solo moment with a recorder during her 2008 single The Nightlife.

Russell Crowe's band Indoor Garden Party played

Australian Russell Crowe singing at Glastonbury?

Yep, you read that right.

Crowe took to the stage with his band Indoor Garden Party on the Acoustic Stage singing covers of Dire Straits and Johnny Cash, alongside some originals.
