Shohei Ohtani's record-breaking season has captivated baseball fans, but his spotlight is overshadowing another standout player on the Los Angeles Dodgers: Freddie Freeman.
Ohtani, who recently signed a historic contract, continues to set new records. He broke Hideki Matsui’s record for most career home runs by a Japanese-born player and set a new franchise record for consecutive games with at least one RBI. Ohtani's achievements include hitting his 25th home run of the season and extending his RBI streak to ten games.
“If Shohei wasn’t doing what he’s doing, Freddie would be in the conversation for Player of the Week the last few weeks," Manager Dave Roberts said. "But Shohei is on another level right now”
However, Freddie Freeman is also having an impressive season. In June, Freeman posted a .333/.426/.643 slash line, hit six home runs, scored 19 runs, and drove in 17 RBIs. Freeman has delivered in critical moments, including a two-run double and a game-tying home run against the White Sox, as well as his 2,000th career hit.
Despite missing out on Player of the Week honors, Freeman is a strong candidate for his eighth National League All-Star selection. He received the second-most votes for National League first basemen, just behind Bryce Harper of the Phillies.
