Jamie Carragher suffers Twitter hack during England game as tweets cause confusion
Jamie Carragher suffered a bizarre social media hack to leave fans baffled.
The ex-Liverpool and England defender has become an outspoken voice on Twitter and fans were expecting the same on Tuesday evening during the Three Lions' Euro 2024 group finale against Slovenia, they were met with a weird sight. Carragher's Twitter account appeared to have been hacked.
His followers dwindled from 2million to just 15, while his profile picture was changed to an image of his Sky Sports colleague Gary Neville during his time at Manchester United. The bio also had an unfamiliar look reading: "Pay me $30 for the user back…"
The hacker did not stop there as they shared a series of baffling tweets. The first read: “I love these memecoins in @Solana. What is your favourite Memecoin? @LFC.”
Another also shared an image of Carragher alongside CBS Sports colleague Micah Richards, with the caption: “Can't hear those waiting for CA @MicahRichards #MESSI.” A final tweet said: “Who want to buy me a coffee?”
A final post was just a baffling jumble of letters and numbers, reading: "$OGUN C28wDWMZicx5fH7Zkk12zzUXkfgHfAoK3SmBJu649pump.” It is currently unclear who was behind the social media attack but Carragher took to Instagram to offer clarification to his confused fans. He said: "Twitter been hacked so there might be more nonsense on there than usual."

Shortly after fans had noticed the bizarre behaviour, the account was locked, with only those earning approval being allowed to see any further tweets. Carragher will certainly be hoping he can retrieve his account sooner rather than later. He is no stranger to mischief on social media.
He cheekily suggested in December that Neville should have replaced the under-fire Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford. A tweet read: "Gary Neville at Valencia: 28 games, 11 losses, 39 goals, 38 goals conceded. Ten Hag 23/24: 26 games, 13 losses, 33 goals, 41 goals conceded. ‘Worst manager ever’ vs Mr ‘Eras come to an end’."
Carragher then replied: "Give it Gary till the end of the season….." In the end, Man United chose to leave Ten Hag in charge and he looks to be closing in on a new contract at Old Trafford.
