Spurs Strategy: 'Keep People Guessing'
With only hours to go before the 2024 NBA Draft, there is still a lot of uncertainty looming. Unlike last year, when it was guaranteed that the San Antonio Spurs would select Victor Wembanyama, the Spurs' draft strategy remains sealed.
No one outside of the inner NBA circles knows who will be selected first overall, or who will go where. In a draft filled with question marks, all of the reporting has been purely speculative.
The Spurs have been included in their share of rumors, and as the draft looms on Wednesday evening, the truth has been revealed: no one knows what's going on aside from the people who absolutely need to.

The Spurs are not a media-friendly team, and often conduct their business in the shadows, which leaves fans and writers (like yours truly!) scrambling for the smallest shreds of information. After months of reporting on possible selections, fits, and prospects, we finally know the basis of the Spurs' strategy.
"I don't know what they’re thinking. Those guys (Spurs front office) are pretty tight; they’re going to keep people guessing," said the agent of a player who worked out with the Spurs.
The Spurs must know what they're doing, but that doesn't mean they need to broadcast it. There has been speculation that they will draft a center, trade their picks, or snag a point guard. Regardless of what path the Spurs chose, expect a vocal group of fans to take to social media to air their grievances.
In a draft without a surefire star like Wembanyama, there will be a lot to be seen after the draft, and the events tonight will just be the start.
