A mourning mother has issued an apology to the bus driver accused of killing her daughter after fiery scenes during his first court appearance.

Lindsay Francis Selby, 70, faced Brisbane Magistrates Court on Wednesday charged with careless driving causing the death of Tia Cameron, 18.

Selby allegedly drove a bus onto a sidewalk on Edward Street, in Brisbane's CBD, striking and pinning Ms Cameron to a wall during peak hour on March 8.

Ms Cameron died at the scene.

Around 20 family members and supporters, some wearing shirts bearing Tia's picture on the front, gathered for the court appearance. Some of them launched into a verbal assault of Selby both inside court and as he left the building.

Ms Cameron's mother, Jade Te Awhitu, labelled the outbursts as 'a disgrace' in an apology letter penned to the accused.

'I would like to apologise to Mr Selby for the intimidation and abuse you received in court today by a few, you should never be subjected to such disrespect, and I will not stand behind this type of behaviour,' she told Selby in a statement via the Courier Mail.

'In all of my grief and the grief of my family, we did feel for you today, and I wholeheartedly apologise.

'I also ask that those who choose to attend court in the future to please respect our family, the court process and most importantly, Tia's memory.

'This behaviour is a disgrace to my family and the memory of my daughter.'

Selby's matter had to be pushed back 30 minutes by Magistrate Ross Mack as supporters slowly filled out the small courtroom.

Ms Cameron's partner, Hayden McKinlay, stood near the accused and glared at him before the matter was heard.

The crowd was angered when Magistrate Mack adjourned the case for two months, even though that is a regular outcome for first appearances.

Prosecutors had requested the time so a forensic crash report could be completed and provided to the defence before proceedings continue.

Some of the supporters made their frustrations known to the court, one saying: 'F***ing kidding me'.

Another took aim at Selby, calling him a 'f***ing f***wit', before Mr Mack stepped in.

'Don't try it, I've given you the courtesy of letting you in, just let it run its course,' he told the audience.

Magistrate Mack asked whether security was required, however Selby's defence lawyer Claire McGee, declined the offer.

Shielded by his own supporters, Selby was verbally abused by supporters - some of who had to be restrained by others or followed him down the street as he left.

Selby did not enter a plea during his brief mention and is set to appear before court on September 4.

Friends and family mourned Ms Cameron's tragic death during an emotional funeral service at Brisbane's Hillsong Theatre on March 14.

Those in attendance heard that Ms Cameron had always wanted to be a mum, to travel the world and to buy a home with her partner Mr McKinlay.

A powerful tribute read on behalf of Mr Mckinlay spoke of their love and future plans together, revealing the last words they spoke to each other were 'I love you'.
