How to take care of club money – AmaZulu boss
DStv Premiership clubs have been struggling with financial books, but AmaZulu have not been one of those. Club boss Sandile Zungu has explained how.
A CLOSE EYE ON AMAZULU’S MONEY
Speaking after Moroka Swallows and TS Galaxy’s financial struggles this past season, AmaZulu’s chairman Zungu has said Usuthu’s finances are in order – thanks to his close eye.
“As the president of the club I want anything that may have financial implications to Usuthu to be run past me,” Zungu said as cited by SABC Sport.
“I do that not because I want to micromanage people, but because the success or failure of Usuthu depends on how we handle our finances,” the AmaZulu boss added.
“If you look at clubs like Swallows that found themselves with financial challenges in the middle of the season, it’s not only Swallows but I don’t want to talk about the others,” the AmaZulu owner continued.
“Usually, the problems they face are due to financial difficulties, then it puts the owners of the club in disgrace. But you also have to ask yourself, if they are embarrassed by this, where were they when the funds were being mishandled?
“So, as the president of Usuthu, I want everyone in the club to be accountable for our finances. I need to know everything, from player salaries, how much we sign the players for, how much other clubs pay to buy our players, etc,” Zungu concluded.
In related news, the club recently decided to release Augustine Kwem, Veluyeke Zulu and George Maluleka.
“Yes, I can confirm they will be leaving the club because their contracts have come to an end,” Zungu said.
“The coach and his backroom staff are discussing the way forward and feel they have other plans – so this means Veluyeke Zulu, George Maluleka and Augustine Kwem will not be staying with us,” he concluded.
NJABULO NGCOBO
Staying with AmaZulu, the Durban giants are linked Kaizer Chiefs defender Njabulo Ngcobo.The 30-year-old player’s deal with Amakhosi is ending in 30 June.
lAccording to his agent, the former Uthongathi and Moroka Swallows player has begun to talk to AmaZulu, among other clubs.
“Kaizer Chiefs is a professional club, they communicate about their intentions. Unfortunately, they have not said anything about Njabulo Ngcobo,” the agent, Sboniso Ngubane told SABC Sport. “We are in talks with different clubs in the DStv Premiership, including AmaZulu FC,” he confirmed.
Should Ngcobo sign for AmaZulu, he would be returning to where it started. The player known as “Mapholoba” enjoyed his development years at Usuthu before moving to Richards Bay and Uthongathi.
