Everton are interested in signing Aston Villa youngster Tim Iroegbunam as the club look increasingly set to cash in on fellow midfielder Amadou Onana for big money, with multiple clubs circling.

The Toffees are are in talks with Aston Villa over a potential £10million deal for defensive midfielder Iroegbunam, who has been capped by England at Under-20 level.

Iroegbunam, 20, made 15 appearances for Unai Emery’s side last season and is now keen to get more regular first-team football, with Everton seen as a perfect destination to do so. Everton are keen and have entered talks to strike a deal which would be relatively cheap.

Sources close to the Goodison Park club expect Belgian midfielder Onana to move on – and Mail Sport understands Arsenal made contact last week over a deal. Nothing is at an advanced stage but the Gunners, plus another Champions League side, have registered interest.

Arsenal saw midfielder Mohamed Elneny leave the club while Thomas Partey’s future is also uncertain.

Onana has been a key member of Sean Dyche’s team since his arrival from French side Lille – who have a sizable sell-on clause and are set for a windfall – in 2022. Everton want at least £50million for the 22-year-old, especially noting sky-high fees paid for midfielders last summer.

Mail Sport last month rubbished reports that Everton needed to sanction a ‘fire sale’ to comply with financial rules before June 30 – the accounting deadline – but it was noted that at least one asset, likely Onana, would be cashed in on.

But regardless on outgoings, Iroegbunam would appear to be one to watch to beef up the midfield department. Andre Gomes also left the club upon the expiry of his contract and Iroegbunam, who came through West Brom’s academy, would be an addition for the first team.
