Protests outside parliament as PM meets with Chinese premier
Protesters have been gathered here on the lawns of Parliament House since around 8:00 this morning. Pro communist activists on one side, pro democracy on the other. Divided by barricades. But that line was crossed. Stop stop stop stop stop. What's wrong with you Reaching boiling point when pro Chinese groups confronted anti Chinese. Moments after a cyclist was caught up in the mess. Witnesses say his flag was snapped in half by another pro China activist, while earlier a man celebrating China claimed he was knocked in the head by a flag. They are talking, but when Tibetan community members tried to tell their side of the story. He has been here since morning, teasing us, teasing us. We didn't do anything. How violent has it been between the pro and anti Chinese protests now? He took me out of the vaccine. Yeah, hitting me. They always try to cover up with this rap victory. The Australian Tibet Council organised the rally to coincide with the arrival of Chinese Premier Li Chiang, calling for freedom and an end to human rights abuses. Our life is in danger, Our families in Tibet are danger. I haven't spoken to my mom for three years because of this kind of things. I've never seen my family because of the Chinese government, China. Stop oppressing the wise less people inside Tibet, not people, my brothers and sisters inside Tibet. Human rights in China is much much better than most of the country. While pro China protesters have started thinning out, anti China activists are likely to remain here for much of the afternoon. Well, things are very different inside Parliament House where there was a ceremonial welcome and talks between the Prime Minister and Mr. Chiang. Trade and cultural ties were on the agenda as well as climate change and visa free travel. The Prime Minister says it's a big change from where China Australia relations were a few years ago. My government has put dialogue at the centre of Australia's relationship with China. Without dialogue we can't address any of the differences that arise between us. The Chinese premier did note some more sensitive issues were raised to including military tensions and an Australian citizen detained in China, Yang Heng New.
