Mumbai: Sanjay Raut, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader on Sunday claimed that the Opposition's INDIA bloc will support N Chandrababu Naidu's Telugu Desam Party (TDP) if it fields a candidate for the Lok Sabha speaker's election. He claimed that the "Lok Sabha speaker's election will be crucial and if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) gets the post, it will break the government- supporting parties like the TDP, JD(U), ad the political outfits of Chirag Paswan and Jayant Chaudhary.

"We have the experience that BJP betrays the people who support it," Raut claimed."I hear the TDP wants to field its candidate. If that happens, INDIA bloc partners will discuss the issue and will try to ensure that all the INDIA alliance partners extend support to the TDP," he added.

Sanjay Raut further said that "this fight of Lok Sabha Speaker is important and this time the situation is not similar to 2014 and 2019." "The government is not stable... We have heard that Chandrababu Naidu has asked for the Lok Sabha Speaker post... If a candidate of NDA will not get the post of Lok Sabha Speaker, then PM Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah will break TDP, JDU and LJP (Ram Vilas)," he said.

Meanwhile, reacting to the claim, Janata Dal (United) leader KC Tyagi said that the ruling party has the first right over the post of Speaker. He further rubbished the claim of Modi or Shah breaking the parties saying "BJP never tried to break any party."

"The position of a Lok Sabha Speaker is the most dignified post of the House... The ruling party has the first right on that seat. The demands and statements of the INDI alliance are objectionable. BJP or NDA have first right on that post. We believe that BJP is the big party of the NDA... I have been in NDA for the last 35 years... BJP never tried to break any party... TDP and JDU played a crucial role. We will never try to weaken the NDA," said KC Tyagi.

Meanwhile, the election for the post of Lok Sabha speaker is to be held on June 26, according to an official statement from Lok Sabha on Thursday.

"In pursuance of sub-rule (1) of Rule 7 of the Rules of Procedure and conduct of Business in Lok Sabha, the President has been pleased to fix Wednesday, the 26th June, 2024, for holding the election to the office of speaker, Lok Sabha", read the official release.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Om Birla presently holds the post of LS speaker. He was elected as the speaker of the 17th Lok Sabha in June 2019, following a motion for election moved by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
