Flash floods, landslide wreak havoc in Himachal Pradesh, block highway
KULLU: The monsoon is yet to hit Himachal Pradesh but the state has already been broadsided with flash floods and landslides, bringing back memories of the rain havoc in 2023.
A massive landslide occurred in the afternoon near Shilai, blocking the Paonta Sahib-Shillai national highway in Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh on Monday late night.This led to an hours-long traffic jam on both sides of the road.
According to a district officials, no loss of life was reported and road clearance work had been started. However, the road was still blocked by to huge boulders that had come down with the landslide till the filing of this report.
Two flash floods were also reported on Monday in Mudgraon in the Udaipur sub-division of Lahaul Spiti and in Gambhar in Arki sub-division of Solan district.
The state had witnessed unprecedented loss of human life, huge destruction, damage and loss to public and private property during the 2023 monsoon season.
Meanwhile, Una recorded the highest maximum temperature of 41.4 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, followed by Hamirpur with 39 degrees and Bilaspur with 38.4 degrees. Kukumseri in Lahaul Spiti was the coldest place in Himachal with the lowest minimum temperature of 6.7 degrees Celsius.
