Delhi Water Crisis Supreme Court Warns Himachal Pradesh On Making U-Turn, Says...
A number of areas in Delhi have been facing water wars for weeks now and this amid a scorching heat wave. Taking note of this, on 6th June, the Supreme Court had directed the Himachal Pradesh government to release 137 cusacks of surplus water to Delhi. The court also told Haryana to ensure that the flow of water is seamless and directed the Delhi government to ensure that none of the water goes waste. But in the last week or so, neither of these directions seem to have yielded anything. Still say that they aren't getting any water. Actually 8 haste main Delhi main severe heat wave chal rahi hai just samay dilli Mein pani Ki kami hai. Just same Supreme Court Delhi ko athirik pani dilane ka prayaskar raha hai. Haryana NE Mona kanal SE paani chhodana Kam kardiya Haryana. Haryana claimed whatever was coming from Himachal was already given and Himachal Pradesh until yesterday kept insisting that they had already released all the excess water. The Supreme Court while hearing the case yesterday, in fact wrapped the Delhi government asking where the water coming from Himachal Pradesh was going. The top court said that the spillage that a tanker mafias and asked what measures the Delhi government had taken in this regard. After that, hectic activity happened again with the Delhi Police patrolling the Munal Canal area to check for tanker mafia's activities and Delhi Minister Atishi also inspecting a pipeline network. The Delhi government said that the water tanker mafia was entering from the Haryana side. In fact, the Delhi government and LG also exchanged barbs over this issue. Meanwhile, even yesterday, Himachal Pradesh said that they had released water for Delhi and the supply needed to go through Haryana. To this, the upper river Yamuna Port Said that Himachal must prove that they had been releasing the water to Delhi because it didn't seem that Himachal was releasing any additional water. And then today in court came a big twist in the issue with Himachal saying that they don't have any surplus water to send to Delhi. This led to the court issuing them a warning saying that Himachal could be hauled up for contempt, to which the Himachal government Council apologized and said that they'd submit an affidavit and withdraw their earlier response. Now, the court has asked the Upper River Yamuna Board itself to meet on priority and find a resolution saying that the sharing of Yamuna water between states is a complex issue and the court does not have technical expertise to decide the formula. So basically the whole situation after days of hearings is practically back to square one. As the court said. Now, until the Yamuna board makes a decision, there doesn't seem to be much relief insight for the residents of Delhi. NCR.
