Azmin’s lawyer accuses Selangor police chief of spreading misinformation

azmin’s lawyer accuses selangor police chief of spreading misinformation

Lawyer Sasha Lyna Abdul Latif says she was repeatedly informed that Azmin Ali was being probed about a statement he made during a Selangor assembly sitting, which state police chief Hussein Omar Khan yesterday denied.

PETALING JAYA: The lawyer for Bersatu leader Azmin Ali has accused Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan of spreading misinformation on the ongoing investigation into the former Selangor menteri besar.

Sasha Lyna Abdul Latif said she was repeatedly informed by the investigating officer that Azmin was being probed about a statement he made during a Selangor state assembly sitting.

However, Hussein yesterday said the state opposition leader was being investigated over an alleged leak of confidential documents linked to a statutory body in the state.

“The investigating officer communicated with Azmin’s officer and myself prior to the issuance of the notice (to give his statement).

“The notice stated that the reported incident occurred at 3.30pm, Feb 28 at the Selangor state assembly. This itself is conclusive,” she said in a statement.

FMT has reached out to Hussein for comment.

Yesterday, Hussein said Azmin was questioned by cops over the alleged leak of confidential documents and not for what he had said in the state assembly.

The Selangor police chief also said Azmin was among 16 people who had their statements taken.

The Selangor Perikatan Nasional chief previously claimed he was summoned by the cops over a claim he made in the state assembly on alleged misconduct involving the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS).

Azmin said it was unconstitutional to question him over a statement he had made in the state assembly, and his lawyers had filed an application for judicial review over the notice.

He had urged the Selangor government in March to explain PKNS’s decision to sell its development rights on PJ Sentral, which was expected to yield a return of RM1.04 billion, to Malaysian Resources Corporation Bhd for RM270 million.
