It was June 22, 1994 when reigning league MVP Hakeem Olajuwon led the Houston Rockets to a 90-84 victory (box score) over the New York Knicks in a decisive Game 7 of the 1994 NBA Finals.
Olajuwon finished with 25 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists, and 3 blocks, which easily outpaced big-man counterpart and rival Patrick Ewing (17 points, 10 rebounds, 2 blocks, 1 assist for the Knicks).
Once the game concluded, it was a celebratory scene in and around The Summit (Houston’s former arena) as fans reveled in the city’s first championship in a major professional sport.
With that in mind, the Rockets as an organization are celebrating the 30-year anniversary of that historic day. With a Clutch City-themed hashtag (#ClutchCity30), here’s a look at various social media posts to commemorate the occasion while reflecting on the memories.
Space City Home Network, the team’s regional broadcast partner, will televise Game 7 in a re-broadcast airing at 7:30 p.m. Central.
