Panthers vs. Oilers final score, results: Stuart Skinner, Edmonton defense force Game 7 in Stanley Cup Final

The Oilers did the improbable, forcing a decisive Game 7 against the Panthers in the 2024 Stanley Cup Final.

After trailing 3-0 in the series to Florida, Edmonton roared back with three wins in a row. In Game 6, the Oilers notched a 5-1 victory on their home ice to continue their comeback bid.

As in Games 4 and 5, the Oilers came out strong and scored first. The difference this time around? Connor McDavid didn't record a shot or point in the game. He came up empty after back-to-back four point games, but the Oilers didn't need him to defeat the Panthers in Game 6.

Warren Foegele scored the opening goal off a beautiful feed from Leon Draisaitl, who looked much more like himself in Game 6.

Perhaps the game-defining moment occurred just one minute into the second period.

Adam Henrique scored to put the Oilers up 2-0, but then Aleksander Barkov answered just 10 seconds later for the Panthers — or so it seemed. Edmonton challenged the play for offsides, and the goal was overturned.

Zach Hyman scored near the end of the second period to extend the Oilers' lead to 3-0. Ryan McLeod and Darnell Nurse put the finishing touches on the win with two empty-net goals.

Even goaltender Stuart Skinner, who saved 20 of 21 shots, picked up an assist. Between Skinner and the defense, which blocked 22 shots, Florida couldn't find much netting.

Edmonton had all the momentum heading into Game 6 at home, but Florida does get one last chance to clean up their mess in Sunrise, Florida.

Oilers control the pace heading into Monday's finale and can join the 1942 Toronto Maple Leafs as the only two teams to win the Stanley Cup after trailing 3-0 in the series.

A win would secure Edmonton's first championship since 1990. For Florida, a Game 7 victory would mark the first title in franchise history.
