Ruto on current crisis: We will not go to an election

  • Ruto said the events of the last two weeks cannot justify any disregard of the Constitution.
  • President assured that he will not be reckless in handling the country’s current situation.

President William Ruto has ruled out the possibility of the country going to an election because of the current crisis.

Speaking during a roundtable with the media at State House Nairobi, Ruto said the Constitution does not state that the country should go to an election in the wake of such a crisis.

“There is no provision for an election. Whatever we do, we must keep it within the parameters of the rule of law,” he said.

He added that the events of the last two weeks cannot justify any disregard of the Constitution.

“We will be marching towards anarchy,” he maintained.

Ruto assured that he will not be reckless in handling the country’s current situation.

“There will be a cut down on many things. Maybe we will ban harambees to stop any demonstration on opulence and cut down on allowances,” he explained.
