Did Maji Maji protest against Finance Bill?

Sharing photos of the protests in the CBD as MPs voted to pass the contentious Bill, Maji Maji said it felt good to see his son fighting for change in the country.

Maji Maji said it was also refreshing to see rapper King Kaka agitating against the Bill, which sailed through after 204 MPs voted "yes" despite nationwide protests.

President William Ruto later withdrew the Bill following pressure.

The ex-Maji rapper added that political reorganisation is needed in Kenya, and citizens' voices must matter in 2027.

"Chocked up in the smoke, a day to remember when your voice as an electorate does not matter, but the interests of a few in a closed room. The sad news is that the bill passed.

This means there's a need for political reorganisation so that your voice will count in the near future, and the future is only 2 years away. The best news that could happen to any parent is that I bumped into my son in the protests! It felt very good...we are on the same page," Maji Maji captioned the photos.

Reacting to the post, netizens said Gen Z's collective action to address issues of public concern was laudable.

@oningomeyo:

"That's my boy."

@eddy_obala:

"Big up, King."

@luttadancehall:

"Maji Maji always has positive energy."

@amblesseddydda:

"Gen Z, here we come."

King Kaka, for his part, was among a large number of artists who turned up to support the protests against the Bill.

Popular with crowds in the CBD, King Kaka was pictured severally mingling with the Gen Z protestors while flanked by Abel Mutua and Hozambee hitmaker D Star.

D Star jetted into the country from Uganda on June 24 for a music tour and attended the Finance Bill 2024 protests on June 25, 2024.
