IGP lauds Bangladesh Police for effective control over militancy at RMP event

Dhaka, July 2 -- Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun today said that militancy is effectively under control in the country, crediting the Bangladesh Police for their success in suppressing militant activities.

Due to the enviable success of the Bangladesh Police in suppressing militancy, normal law and order prevail in the country, the IGP said. This has facilitated economic development and increased the per capita income, he added.

The IGP made these comments while addressing a discussion as the chief guest on the occasion of the 32nd founding anniversary of the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) at the Rajshahi Police Lines.

Reflecting on past threats, the IGP said that there was a time when terrorism and militancy posed significant threats to the country. "We witnessed the rise of Bangla Bhai in Rajshahi. Following the Prime Minister's 'Zero Tolerance' policy against militancy and terrorism, we have successfully suppressed these threats by working together."

Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun praised the dedication of the Bangladesh Police, saying that the fearless members of the Bangladesh Police have never hesitated to fulfil their duties for the country's needs. "Bangladesh Police is ready to deal with any situation."

He also expressed gratitude to the residents of Rajshahi for their cooperation, support, and trust in the police. The progress of the RMP in maintaining law and order in the city has been achieved with the cooperation of the city dwellers, he said, expressing hope for continued support in the future.

The event, chaired by RMP Commissioner Biplab Vijay Talukder, also featured speeches from Principal of Bangladesh Police Academy Additional IG Md. Masudur Rahman Bhuiyan and other senior police officers, as well as city elites and invited guests.

During the celebration, the IGP unveiled the cover of the special commemorative 'Daubarik,' published for the anniversary, and a video documentary showcasing RMP's philanthropic activities was screened. A cake-cutting ceremony commemorated the milestone.

Earlier in the day, the IGP inaugurated the RMP anniversary by releasing balloons and pigeons at the RMP headquarters. A colourful rally marked the occasion, and the IGP planted a sapling on the premises.

Established on July 1, 1992, with four police stations, the RMP now operates 12 stations covering an area of 472 square kilometres.
