On Wednesday, June 26, the head of state was forced to withdraw the bill following massive nationwide protests.
Speaking during a roundtable with digital media in which TUKO.co.ke was present, Ruto revealed he had sacrificed significant sleep to consider ways to improve the lives of young people.
The president sympathised with the youth unemployment crisis, recalling his experience of not finding employment until his election to Parliament.
"For the last two weeks, I have kept sometimes late into the night thinking about the young people of our nation because I am one person who did not get a job until I was elected as a member of Parliament. I know what it means not to have a job. That is why I am willing to put my career on the line: to see that, to the extent that I can, young people have an income. That's why I have really pushed the programs that I believe will put a job in the way for many young people. Will put an income in their pockets and make a livelihood for many young people," Ruto said.
