Sabah’s own MM2H programme open to applications tomorrow

Sabah state minister Christina Liew said applicants for the long-term residential programme are prohibited from working in Malaysia.

PETALING JAYA: Sabah has unveiled its own Malaysia My Second Home programme, with applications open from tomorrow.

Sabah tourism, culture, and environment minister Christina Liew said applications will take about eight to ten weeks to be processed and approved, Bernama reported.

Applicants must be at least 30 years old and from a country which has diplomatic ties with Malaysia. They must purchase a high-rise property worth at least RM600,000, and meet certain financial conditions: a fixed deposit of RM150,000, and an income of RM10,000 per month.

For families, a fixed deposit of RM300,000 is required as well as a monthly income of RM15,000.

Liew said applicants may not purchase property in the affordable homes scheme, which are reserved for Sabahans and not intended for foreign investment .

“We will also ensure there is no subletting of these permits,” she said.

Liew said the Sabah-MM2H programme was approved by federal authorities.

“Sabah-MM2H participants are encouraged to fully immerse themselves in our rich cultural tapestry, contribute to our local economy, and build lasting connections within our vibrant community of residents and fellow expatriates,” she said. They are prohibited from using their passes to work in the country.
