Australia's Paralympic team officially launched
It's become an anthem to stir and inspire a nation. And today it was the soundtrack to unleash our Paralympians on the world's best in Paris. I'm really excited about the way the team's shaping up. They're going to be incredibly strong team. Forget saying sport and politics don't mix. In the Great Hall at Parliament House, Canberra, the Prime Minister and the Federal Opposition Leader each giving a pep talk to Australia's 160 strong team. The success of Team Australia means so much to our nation. Your determination, your sacrifice, your performance has seen you selected to wear the green and gold. The greatest honour in this country. The Australian team will have two captains, Parrot canoeist Curtis McGrath. He lost both his legs in Afghanistan after stepping on a landmine in 2012 and Angie Ballard is competing at a 7th Paralympics in the wheelchair Sprint events. For me, my big passion is just everyone being able to tell their story, being able to share their voice. So step forward Taylor Gossons. Have you been to the Olympics before? No, that was my first time. But the Para judo athlete will be making history. I don't think we've ever had a female represent Australian powered reader. And there's more. Taylor's dad, Jared Gossens was a Paralympian in the marathon. Never before has a father and then a daughter represented Australia at a Paragon. Damian Ryan, 9 News.
