Euro 2024 stats: Musiala sparkles, Neuer's record 38, Xhaka's impeccable passing
The knockout stages of Euro 2024 began in grand style last night, as Italy once again fell short against Switzerland, while the hosts Germany progressed through to the quarterfinal, where they will face either Spain or Georgia.
Remo Freuler's goal in the first half and then Ruben Vargas's stunner in the second saw Switzerland ease past Italy 2-0, in a completely deserved result, as the defending champions were outplayed in every facet of the game, by a Swiss side whose control stood out.
Meanwhile, in Dortmund, the hosts Germany beat Denmark 2-0 to progress to the quarterfinals as well, helped by a Kai Havertz penalty which was later added to by Jamal Musiala.
