Kraken Building Their AHL Roster After Signing Five Players To Contracts

The Seattle Kraken have handed out five two-way contracts to players. The list includes Ben Meyers, Mitchell Stephens, Brandon Biro, Nikolas Brouillard, and Maxime Lajoie.

Meyers played with both the Colorado Avalanche and Anaheim Ducks last year. He spent more time in the AHL with the Colorado Eagles, where he scored 11 goals and 25 points in 32 games. The 25-year-old signed with the Avalanche after he completed his college career at the University of Minnesota but has struggled to carve out a role in the NHL. Since signing in 2022, he's played 67 games, scoring six goals and eight points. Signing a one-way contract means he'll get his chance to play consistent NHL minutes.

Stephens spent the past two seasons with the Laval Rocket, where he totalled 117 games, 33 goals and 76 points. The 27-year-old was the 33rd overall pick in 2015 but has also struggled to make a name for himself in the NHL. He's played just 95 NHL games, scoring five goals and 16 points. Stephens will spend the next two seasons in the Kraken organization.

Biro is a left-handed winger who has been a key contributor to a good Rochester Americans team. Last year, he played in 59 games, scoring 16 goals and 43 points. The 26-year-old has been a full-time AHLer in his career, as he's only featured in six NHL games in his career.

Brouillard is the first of the two defensemen the Kraken signed. Playing with the Hartford Wolfpack last year, the 29-year-old recorded five goals and 36 points in 70 games. He also racked up 137 penalty minutes. The Canadian defenseman has been quite the journeyman in his career.

Lajoie is a 26-year-old defenseman who spent the 2023-24 campaign with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Marlies. He got seven games of NHL action but was a mainstay on the Marlies' blueline, registering four goals and 24 points in 51 games.

The Kraken have once again provided the Coachella Valley Firebirds with a lot of talented players and the organization is hoping this is the year the team brings home the Calder Cup.
