Rafizi dares PN: Show what you’ve done for Sungai Bakap
PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli said the opposition coalition should focus on the immediate concerns of Sungai Bakap constituents.
NIBONG TEBAL: Rafizi Ramli has challenged Perikatan Nasional and PAS to show what their previous Sungai Bakap assemblyman had done for the constituency during his short-lived tenure, particularly when it came to local issues.
The PKR deputy president said the opposition coalition should focus on the immediate concerns of constituents on the campaign trail for the by-election rather than raising national issues.
“I challenge PN to show how (the late Nor Zamri Latiff) performed during his tenure as the elected representative here, which is vital for voters to make an informed decision, as it seems that they are trying to avoid the matter.
“This raises questions about their effectiveness in serving the local community,” he said at a press conference on the campaign trail here.
Rafizi said local issues such as water supply disruptions and bad road conditions were crucial but had been ignored by PN during the by-election campaign.
Zamri’s death in May led to the by-election being called. He had won the Sungai Bakap seat from Pakatan Harapan during the state assembly elections last August. PKR previously held the seat for two terms.
Rafizi, the economy minister, said that PKR’s focus in the final week of campaigning would be between clearing the air on the government’s stance on various issues and addressing local concerns raised by voters.
He said PH candidate Joohari Ariffin would launch the party’s manifesto tonight, detailing his plans for the Sungai Bakap community.
On the anti-Anwar rally
Rafizi also took a cheeky dig at those behind the “Rakyat Lawan Anwar” demonstration held outside Seri Perdana, the prime minister’s official residence in Putrajaya earlier today.
He said he respected their right to gather and protest, adding that they could even “protest in front of my cat” if they wanted to as long as they abide by the law.
