PETALING JAYA: The Good Vibes Festival (GVF), slated for July 20 and 21, has been cancelled out of respect for the installation of the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim.
Future Sound Asia said the central agency for applications for filming and performances by foreign artistes (Puspal) had informed that organisers are barred from holding concerts featuring foreign acts on July 20.
“Due to the nature of GVF, which involves multiple touring acts over several days, rescheduling the festival is not possible. As a result, Future Sound Asia is announcing the cancellation of the festival.
“All GVF ticket purchasers will automatically receive full refunds through the payment method used for their purchase,” the organiser said in a statement today.
GVF 2024 was supposed to have taken place at Resorts World Awana in Genting Highlands.
This is the second year in a row that GVF has been cancelled. Last year, the festival made headlines when it was called off after the first day, following a controversial incident involving UK band The 1975.
On the opening night of the three-day concert at the Sepang International Circuit, The 1975’s lead singer, Matty Healy, criticised Malaysia’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) laws before kissing a male bandmate.
The band has since been blacklisted from performing in Malaysia.
Earlier, Puspal said event organisers holding concerts featuring foreign artistes on July 20 were advised to postpone their shows to another date.
