Damning report into 2021 Callide C power station explosion find CS Energy failed to implement ‘effective safety practices’
The Energy Minister under pressure after a damning report into the cause of the Callied power station explosion. We might just jump straight into question, shall we? IN2021A power unit at the facility exploded, causing mass blackouts, but a draft report by Doctor Sean Brady released earlier this week highlighted a maintenance backlog. The Minister today claimed he was given the wrong advice by former CS Energy executives. What I was told was that all of the statutory and other maintenance that was required to be done was done. The CEO and the chair told me that repeatedly the advice you were given was not true. Well, I think I think it was incorrect. Senior Labour figure and former Brisbane Lord Mayor Jim Soley resigned as chair of CS Energy last year after eight years in the job. Andrew Bills also departed last year after serving as the CEO. In light of Mr. de Brennan's claims, the ABC contacted both for comment. Mr. Soley declined, while a spokeswoman for Mr. Bill's directed the ABC to CS Energy, which also declined to comment. The Opposition says the Energy Minister should be held to account for his comments. It's our strong view that the actions of Minister Debris in misleading the Parliament should be looked at by Parliament's powerful Ethics Committee.
