Hoiles surprised by Canham omission
It was he's learning, isn't he? He learns. I think like the the the the no overseas players, that wasn't a surprise. Whether we get them for the Rugby Championships. I don't mind us not bringing them in for this. Short and hit, not hit and run. But it's a short and can. It's two Wales Test versus Wales, one versus Georgia. What about the squad? I'm Josh Cannon. Josh Cannon, Right. Would you have picked him? Yeah, I would have. I said multiple times, but then I then read him. Why some people have, I don't, I'm not looking at stats, I'm just looking at performances. A few people have dug down and said there was like some, you know, high number of missed tackles compete like a Ryan Smith and Josh Cannon, the polar opposites in terms of how they play. Ryan Smith is a diesel engineer. He's going to give you an 8 out of 10 every week, seven or eight out of 10. He works his ass off. He's a big physical president. Josh Cannon plays a little bit looser. He's got offload, he's got line out steal. There's there's a little bit more risk first reward with someone like Cannon yeah they're also ball like they're just black and white stats. There's no context to stats right. So Ryan Smith, does he defend a lot at second and third defender Yes. Where he's taking one step and he's hitting something he's Josh Canam just inside the centre yeah third last 4th, last in line having decision making yeah. Therefore he's gonna be what's his passing in his defence and Ryan Smith can't offload 'cause he's carrying tight. Well, Josh Canam's out in the 15th. There's all those yeah, context things to deal with, I suppose when you're selecting like you as a coach. Yeah. And I again, you the 2nd row is a big one because you don't know like having been a back row, you need to know who you sort of key ball carriers. And if you don't have, you know, your meteor, it is in your top five then or in your front row, then you got to put more in your second rows to do it. So Academy isn't probably a he's not a guy that will go and get hard meters, but he's a guy that can find it an edge, a soft shoulder. He can get recycled, he can get second phase play happening. I'm a fan of him. I feel like he's unlucky. His performance looked as though he deserved it, but he'll get his chance, I'm sure. Unless he's going overseas, which I don't know. No, that hasn't been spoken of. Junk. I think everyone's expecting him to go to the Reds. OK. He does have an English passport, I think a British passport or something. Yeah. I hope that gets. What do you think about players that he gets lost Dog? I I, I wouldn't have. I didn't think he would go in, to be honest. Yeah, I know that a lot of of my colleagues who I who I love. I'm happy to expect Corey Tools gone to the Sevens. I think that's the wise decision. Derby. Lancast, too. I didn't expect to see Derby in there. I'm stoked to see the kid in there. So I love him. I love the way he goes about his work, but I didn't I didn't think he get picked. It's you you asked when we talk about selection, like we're still talking about a 38 man squad. So it's very difficult to say who's in who's out there. They're all just training for the next couple of weeks. Yeah. You know, biasly, I was happy to see Kurtly back, knowing that he came through a club system to get himself back there and his versatility probably helps. What do you think? Who will the Pammy Stewart, He's in there. That's good. I like that one. Yeah. Yeah. Well, you, you pick and say you look at who who's out because of they're not picking overseas and there's fourteen players left from the World Cup last year. You take all those overseas players out. The natural transition from out of a World Cup cycle into a new one with a new coach. It was always going to be looking different. 13 uncapped players. So the big one is 38 guys. No captain nominated means Joe Schmidt's having a week and a half, two weeks now to look at the group he's got. He's got some things to work out. There's talking to Super Rugby coaches, there's watching film. They're sitting in a a box watching game and there's getting your hands on them on the pitch, training them, seeing how guys cope with things, seeing how they mix together, seeing how quickly they learn. Yeah, that's a big one. Like, that's how's he gonna play? Yeah. How different is it gonna be to how super teams have played so many things that that go into this whole mix Now, one of the other ones very quickly that I loved seeing getting picked was Dylan Peach, because I think there's a huge ceiling on that kid. We know how big a body is. We know how keen he is to chase work, how much of A team man he is and just maybe with some Polish from international coaches. Not necessarily that he never got it at the Tars, but I'd love to see what that progression looks like. Squad member, fringe squad member last year for the World Cup. I'd really like to see how he go to a test level. I don't want him. I don't want him to play for. I know you don't you want him back? No, no, because back I I went to sit down with him and say, look, mate, I don't think you're ever gonna make it as now. So maybe we should go back into the background back in the forward. It was it was the year the seventh players all was he was the year the seventh players all came back to room. So like Lockheim Miller. Yeah, Hutches, long bottom, all this. And we were trying to Tristan Riley was trying to just jigsaw puzzle it. But yeah, mate, you might not have a future. He hasn't played in the back until he left. But but once again, we talk about the seven skill set, but also the style of player that Dylan Peach is. Lancaster and Peach, right? Schmidt picked them. Big bodies, good core skills, physical presence out wide, can challenge for the ball, make their tackles. It's an interesting style of player he's picked out there.
